Rachel Rothman Garji

“Bowl” is part of a series of video works concerned with wheel-thrown pottery, materiality, deception, and the space in between them. In this work, the bowl has departed from its original purpose and becomes a screen, picture or aperture that offers a glimpse to another dimension.

 

The use of video enables me to create a layered reality in which the object and the process of its creation intermingle. The formation of the bowl, which is projected onto the object as a “living,” dynamic image, transforms it into a container for another medium, as the event of creation becomes an organic part of the final, familiar container.
